Bug in Google Local Search reviews algorithm

I discovered this peculiar bug yesterday when checking on rankings and reviews for my client Von Ray Johnson, a personal trainer in downtown Portland.

Portland Mercury News editor Matt Davis’ blog shows up as all 9 reviews for my client–and all links presented just go to the home page of his blog site.  It sure doesn’t look like a spam or hacking problem….here’s how to see the bug:

• Do a Google search for “personal trainer downtown Portland“.
• In the 10-pack click “9 reviews” next to V Shape Fitness.
• Click More Reviews (9).

All of the “reviews” are snippets from his blog…and, all links presented simply go to his home page!

Real reviews of V Shape Fitness exist (and were showing) on Yahoo, Yelp, Citysearch, and Google Maps.
